    brian shaw make 1073pounds with deadlift and uses grips straps.

    They are a tool, that has it's use. I use them from time to time, when my hands are to beat up to properly hold the bar. The stronger deadlifters use them to save the skin of their hands and their finger tendons from overuse. In the end, they usually still can pull those weights, despite the use of straps sometimes.

    Strongmen use them more often, because their grip is already trained heavely through other exercises.

    IF you really want to use them just don't use them before you really need them.

    Mixed is always stronger. It prevents the bar from rolling by obstructing both turning directions. Hook only adds more pressure and friction with both thumbs, which forces them at the end of their range of motion.
